Frame It! Custom Framing

In 20 years of running Frame It! Custom Framing in Vancouver, Mark Duckworth admits he’s seen some strange things his customers wanted preserved for posterity.

“One that stands out was someone wanted me to put a blood-stained shirt they wore on a safari along with the bullet they used for the animal they caught in a shadow box,” Duckworth said. “Recently, I had another customer wanting us to put a large bug they’d captured in Australia or somewhere in a box. You just never know what a customer may bring in.”

Since opening in 1993, Duckworth and Frame It! has offered quality custom framing and cutting edge designs to individuals, corporate clients and the interior design trade, as well as conservation and shadow box framing.

“Our usual clientele wants to preserve photos, limited edition prints, paintings or posters,” Duckworth said. “We can work with pretty much all shapes and sizes and offer a variety of frames and matte choices.”

Duckworth started working with framing when he lived in Salem as a photographer doing portraits and wedding albums. With over 5,000 frame and matting samples in their showroom, covering surfaces from wood, to plastic, to aluminum and more, Frame It! can make virtually any image have a distinct look.

“We don’t often get customers coming in knowing exactly what they want for a frame or matte,” Duckworth said. “Most are looking for ideas or direction on a good frame and we can offer countless combinations to choose from.”

In addition to framing new prints or items, Frame It! can also extend the life of older prints that have aged in old and unprotected frames.

“Since we use acid-free matting and backing and UV-protective glass, it allows us to keep a print of an item from further degradation,” Duckworth said. “The problem with older frames is the glass doesn’t always protect the image from fading, and acids in the paper can bleed onto a print and also cause fading.”

Not only working with frames, Duckworth can make custom shadow boxes to preserve anything from a movie projector to sports memorabilia and more.

“Pretty much anything a customer considers valuable can be framed or preserved,” Duckworth said. “It all depends on what it is and what they’re looking to do with it.”

Frame It! also offers volume discounts for corporations and have done work for the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Department of Transportation, the Port of Vancouver, SW Washington Medical Center, Big Al’s, and more.

“We’ve been lucky to have so many great clients work with us over the years and help us be successful,” Duckworth said.
